So I went ahead and decided to try this.

It accepted step one: mfastboot oem fb_mode_set

The second command, mfastboot flash partition gpt.bin resulted in the following error…

    target max-sparse-size: 256MB
    sending ‘partition’ (32 KB)…
    OKAY [0.000s]
    writing ‘partition’…
    (bootloader) Preflash validation failed
    FAILED (remote failure)
    finished. total time: 0.344s

Is this because I tried it on an XT1527?
